A fun dive with Sydney’s marine life on full display
Australian fur seals can be very playful and young individuals are the most entertaining! To experience them at their best, we enter the water in view of these amazing mammals and surface swim to the edge of the rocks where the seal colony is sunning itself.
Scuba diving with seals in Sydney – it’s the best!
The best technique to get the seals to interact with the divers is to invite them in. On approach of the rocks, we’ll invite them in and are sure to find willing play partners. The seals will waddle down the rocks and enter right next to us. We’ll watch them put on an impressive underwater acrobatic display, and once the seals have completed their play with us, we’ll dive down the rocky boulder field to the reef edge to the kelp gardens below (at a 20m depth), where we hope to find another Sydney scuba dive favourite; the weedy seadragons.
Other notable Sydney marine life to be found on this dive
Wobbegong, Port Jackson and crested horn sharks are very common throughout this area. You’ll also find old wives (a perch-like fish) aplenty and schools of yellowtail in the shallower depths (12m to 15m.)
