Who Can Join Sydney Dive Charters On Night Boat Dives
All certification and experience levels can enjoy most of Sydney’s boat night dive sites. Sydney Dive Charters does recommend that scuba divers have a minimum certification of advanced open water. However if you are an open water diver with night diving experience we can make special arrangements to dive an appropriate dive site.
Sydney's Night Boat Dive Sites
Sydney Dive Charters has many boat night dive sites that we dive during the day and that we dive at night. These boat night dives sites are located on reefs that are made up of large and small boulders; these boulders are covered with colourful sponges and soft coral gardens and have lots of swim thought’s and holes for marine life to live. These boulder fields generally drop down on a 20 – 60 degree angle to a sandy edge where a lot of marine life lives. We also dive drop offs and some ship wrecks located in the harbour entrance or in the harbour itself, such as the TSS Currajong.
NIGHT BOAT DIVES TO THE WRECK OF TSS CURRAJONG
Sydney Dive Charters operates boat night dives to the almost fully intact wreck of the TSS Currajong. This wreck can only be dived at the peak of the high tide in the middle of the night after all shipping has stopped operating. This so the divers get the best visibility and the wreck is safe to dive, as the ship wreck is located in the Harbour’s shipping channel. Due to the wrecks location we are required to operate boat night dives after midnight.
The TSS Currajong sank in 24m of water in March 1910 after a collision with a passenger ship. The wreck is 68m in length and is almost fully intact, good fish life and lots of decorative crabs. Great for photography.
