Trygonorrhina fasciata

A beautiful brownish oval-shaped ray with distinctive lighter coloured bands on its top-side and a triangular shape behind its eyes. The Fiddler Ray (also known as Eastern Fiddler Ray or Banjo Ray) tips the scales at around 4kg and at its largest will hover around 120cm in length.

The Fiddler Ray is a bottom feeder. It hunts crabs, shellfish and worms and occasionally will be found scavenging fish traps!

Quick Facts on Fiddler Rays

• Fiddler Rays are generally found by scuba divers in waters around a depth of 20m.

• They’re commonly seen in areas that contain sand, rock and kelp.

• Fiddler rays are quite shy and will move on if divers get too close.
